English translations
In recent years, Michael Lombardi-Nash has become something of a “US branch” of the Magnus Hirschfeld Society. The American with Italian-Scottish roots has been translating from German into English for over four decades now, ever since he spent a year abroad in Germany as a student in the mid-1970s. Together with his then partner and later husband Paul Nash (1934–2010), Lombardi-Nash established “Urania Manuscripts” in the late 1970s, which to this day has published his translations of writings from the early German-language homosexual movement of over 100 years ago, including books and pamphlets by Magnus Hirschfeld, Karl Heinrich Ulrichs, Eugen Wilhelm, Anna Rüling, Johanna Elberskirchen, and last but not least, numerous volumes of the Jahrbücher für sexuelle Zwischenstufen (“Annual of Sexual Intermediaries”).
Initially, Michael Lombardi-Nash presented his translations as eBooks only, but he has gone over to also produce paperback and hardcover editions. For some time now, he has been donating one copy of each of his translations to the ONE Archives at the University of Southern California (Los Angeles) and the Magnus Hirschfeld Society in Berlin. That way, at least two copies of his works exist, one on each side of the Atlantic Ocean. We are very grateful for Michael Lombardi-Nash’s tireless work and wish him much creative joy and success in his future endeavors!
